At Harris Kyriakides, we set high standards for our trainees and we expect them to exceed them. We recognise their successes and highlight where they can improve. Based on their performance, many of our trainees are offered a place at the firm as Junior Associates after the completion of their traineeship. The traineeship lasts one year. During this year, trainees spend time working for lawyers in all our different practice areas to broaden their experience and help them decide on which area they would like to focus on in the future.
Successful candidates can expect an excellent working environment, challenging opportunities across a variety of areas and the possibility to specialise in particular fields. Law graduates who start a career with us can be assured that we will assist them to evolve in order to achieve their full potential.
Structure
Trainees are encouraged to start their traineeship during the summer period so that they can attend special workshops and seminars from various supporting departments of the firm, e.g. Information Technology, Human Resources, Litigation Support, etc., and they become familiar with the policies and practices of the Firm. Trainees are placed in their respective departments and are fully ready to join their department by the last Monday of August each year.
In the course of a traineeship, we provide high standards of education and practice. Trainees are expected to learn and adhere to the firm’s standards, policies and culture and absorb knowledge and experience in day to day application of the law. They are given the opportunity to participate in meetings, trials and firm’s projects. In addition, they will spend time working for lawyers in all our different practice areas to broaden their experience and to help them decide which area they would like to focus on in the future.
During this year, they will be assigned a supervisor, who they will shadow, and will share an office with one of the members of the team. This will give them an opportunity to ask questions related to tasks and to spend time working with lawyers in various practice areas and understand daily routines.
At the end of the traineeship, trainees will be assessed by their supervisor and Head of Department in terms of their performance and whether they can cope with both daily tasks and the projects assigned to them. This assessment will help the Firm to make a decision on whether the trainee advocate shall be offered permanent employment.
